Top 10 IITs \u2013 An introduction <\/strong><\/h2>\n

Indian Institute of Technology, commonly referred to as IIT, is the premier institute in the country that has an unparalleled legacy in imparting engineering education for the past six decades. Being Centrally funded and declared as Institutes of National Importance, the contribution of IITs to technical education has been phenomenal.<\/p>\n

Entry into IITs is through the Joint Entrance Examination, in short, referred to as JEE. This is yet again a prestigious and one of the toughest examinations that also determines your admission into the top IIT colleges, rank-wise. In this article, let us throw light on the top IIT colleges and entry into it. We shall try and focus on the JEE Advance examination and also understand the eligibility criteria \u2013 who can take JEE mains and JEE advanced? Let us also learn about the primary difference between JEE mains and JEE advanced.<\/p>\n

As we understand, IITs are unmatched in their legacy, stature, and standards, and can be rated globally highly, for their consistent evolution into premier centers of technical education that boast of top-notch faculty, world-class facilities, teaching methodologies, and research as backbone. Within the first 15 years of independence, India saw the establishment of Indian Institutes of Technology across five regions, between 1951 and 1961. These were IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, IIT Kanpur, and IIT Delhi, in the order beginning from the earliest.<\/p>\n

Post reform period was witness to taking IIT education across the country, a mission that today sees 23 IITs. While IITs in general maintain uniform standards, there are often debates and discussions on the best IIT, top IITs rank-wise, top 10 IITs, and so on.<\/p>\n

How to get admission into IITs \u2013 Eligibility criteria <\/strong><\/h2>\n

As mentioned above, admission into IITs is through the Joint Entrance Examinations. There are two JEEs \u2013 JEE Mains and JEE Advanced. For IIT admission, JEE Advanced is the annual competitive test to be cleared, while the students are also required to clear JEE Main to become eligible for JEE Advanced.<\/p>\n

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) serves as an entrance assessment for admission to various engineering colleges in India. This examination comprises two distinct components: the JEE-Main and the JEE-Advanced.<\/p>\n

The Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) manages the collaborative admission process for a total of 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), 25 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) campuses, and other Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs). The admission is based on the rank achieved by a student in either the JEE-Main or JEE-Advanced, depending on the engineering college.<\/p>\n

Certain institutes, including the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs), the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE), the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Petroleum Technology (RGIPT), the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), utilize the scores obtained in the JEE-Advanced examination for admissions. However, these institutes are not part of the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) counseling process. It’s important to note that students admitted to an Indian Institute of Technology cannot reappear for the JEE-Advanced examination, whereas this restriction does not apply to NIT, IISc, IISERs, RGIPT, IIPE, and IIST.<\/p>\n

JEE \u2013 Main, the first major step to get into top IITs <\/strong><\/h3>\n

JEE Main is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and has two papers, Paper I and Paper II. The candidates have the choice to attempt either or both papers that come in multiple choice.<\/p>\n

The Paper-I is for admission into B.E.\/B. Tech while Paper II makes candidates gain admission into Bachelor\u2019s degree courses in architecture and planning. The format of JEE Main was changed during 2021 with 20 single choice questions and 10 numerical questions of which five numerical ones can be attempted.<\/p>\n
